Bell Ringer: Countess Of Wessex Marks #InternationalWomensDay2018

The Countess of Wessex continued her three-day visit to Malta today by opening the Malt Stock Exchange as part of her day celebrating International Women’s Day.

Together with President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, HRH rang the trading bell and officially opened the trading session.

Chairman of the Malta Stock Exchange, Joe Portelli: ‘We are honoured that Her Royal Highness the Countess of Wessex, on behalf of 100 Women in Finance, and Her Excellency the President of Malta have marked International Women’s Day with us by ringing the opening bell. Malta has a rich heritage as a successful, growing and inclusive financial services centre.”

Sophie is visiting the Southern European island for three days in her role as Global Ambassador.

HRH is Ambassador for 100 Women in Finance’s Next Generation Initiative.

As ambassador, HRH serves as an advocate for increasing diversity in the financial services industry. She works tirelessly to raise the visibility of women in finance and encourages young women to pursue careers in the areas of finance.

During her time in Malta, The Countess will also visit the University of Malta Valletta Campus, and attend a reception at Casino Maltese as Global Ambassador for 100 Women in Finance’s Next Generation Initiative.

As part of celebrating International Women’s Day, The Countess shared a message about Musfeka Nasnin, an inspiring woman from Bangladesh who is part of a new film Opening Eyes by The Diamond Jubilee Trust for whom Sophie is Vice-Patron.

Nasnin works tirelessly in educating over 200,000 people across Bangladesh about blindness caused by diabetes.

The Countess said: “I met Musfeka, the young woman who is the subject of this film, in Bangladesh a few months ago. This International Women’s Day I pay tribute to her and other women across the Commonwealth and the world for all they are doing to bring a vision to everyone, everywhere.”

Sophie last visited Malta in 2012 with her husband, the Earl of Wessex.
