Prince Albert to Deliver Commencement Speech At University Blocks from Home of Princess Grace

Prince Albert II of Monaco will address the undergraduate Commencement ceremony at Jefferson University on 9 May at the commencement ceremony held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

In 2017 Philadelphia University and Thomas Jefferson University combined schools to form Jefferson University.

Prince Albert will receive the honorary degree Doctor of Humane Letters at Commencement.

Prince Alberts mother, Grace Kelly grew up in the East Falls neighbourhood blocks from the University.

Grace Kelly was a Golden Globe and Academy Award-winning actress before retiring at the age of 26 to marry Prince Ranier.

Princess Grace died tragically in 1982 after succumbing to injuries she sustained in a car accident. The Princess had a stroke while driving home to Monaco with her daughter Stephanie who suffered a slight concussion and a hairline fracture

In 2005 Prince Albert acceded to the throne after the death of his father.

In 2006 he established the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation dedicated to protecting the environment, with a particular focus on seeking innovative and ethical solutions in the fields of climate change, water and biodiversity.

During his reign, he has also concentrated on economic development and human rights issues and has competed in five Olympics as a member of the Monaco bobsleigh team.

Albert received a degree in political science from Amherst College in Massachusetts.
