Entitled ‘The Queen’s Green Planet’, the programme will focus on The Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy and Her Majesty’s little-known love of trees. The heart of the documentary will see The Queen and Sir David Attenborough in deep conversation in the gardens of Buckingham Palace.

ITV teased the upcoming documentary, “In a rare opportunity to see The Queen talking informally to Sir David, the conversation ranges from climate change to conkers and birthday gifts. In the often humorous exchange, The Queen reveals her passion for nature and how the garden’s history is intertwined with that of her family’s, charting the lives of her children but also delving into the past of her great, great grandparents Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.”

The one-off documentary will also follow Prince Harry as he plants trees in the Caribbean, Prince William and family in Canada’ Great Bear Rainforest as well as following Angelina Jolie and her conservation work with the Namibian Government.

ITV’s teaser continued, “Discussing a mulberry tree planted by James I in the early 1600’s to attract silkworms, Her Majesty comments ‘They chose the wrong variety and so the silkworms didn’t produce anything, which was a great disappointment to him I believe’. The Queen also reveals that she is often given new varieties of plants as gifts, adding ‘I’ve been quite difficult to give presents to so… they’ve said ‘Oh let’s give her a plant’.”

The Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy was conceived by the Right Honourable Frank Field MP and was launched at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Malta in 2015. By creating a pan-Commonwealth network of forest conservation projects, the QCC will mark Her Majesty The Queen’s service to the Commonwealth while conserving indigenous forests for future generations.

The Queen’s Green Planet airs at 9pm on Monday 16th April on ITV.
