Harry and Meghan: In Lieu of Wedding Gifts

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have asked those who wish to send gifts for their upcoming wedding donate to one of the seven charities they have chosen.

According to a Kensington Palace statement: “Prince Harry and Ms Megan Markle are incredibly grateful for the goodwill shown to them since the announcement of their engagement and are keen that as many people as possible benefit from this generosity of spirit. The couple have therefore asked that anyone who might wish to mark the occasion considers making a donation to charity, rather than sending a wedding gift.”

The seven organizations Harry and his future wife have chosen represent areas they are passionate about, although they do not have an formal relationships with the seven charities.

The charities that will benefit from the donations range from women’s empowerment, conservation, sport for change, HIV, Armed Forces, the environment and conservation.

The Charities:


CHIVA is the Children’s HIV Association that supports children growing up with HIV as well as their families in the United Kingdom and Ireland.


Crisis is a national charity that assist the homeless to help them rebuild their lives and move past homelessness.

Myna Manila Foundation

The Myna Manila Foundation is the charity empowering women in the urban slums of Mumbai to help them grow personally and professionally. Through stable employment opportunities and breaking the taboo of menstrual hygiene, the foundation also offers women sanitary pads and information manufactured and distributed by women in the community.

Scotty’s Little Soldiers

Scotty’s Little Soldiers is a charity for Armed Forces children who lost a parent while serving in the British Armed Forces. It was started by Nikki Scott, war widow.

Ms Scott commented about being chosen as one of the seven charities: “To have been personally chosen by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is an incredible honor for Scotty’s Little Soldiers and we are extremely grateful for the opportunity.”


The charity uses sport to change the lives of its participants across the UK. StreetGames uses sport to empower people to make a change in their lives that also help their communities.

Surfers Against Sewage

SAS is a national marine conservation and campaigning charity that inspires, empowers and unites communities to participate in protecting oceans, beaches, waves and wildlife.

The Wilderness Foundation UK

The Wilderness Foundation UK promotes the benefits of nature and enjoying all its beauty. The charity uses the outdoors to help young people build resilience and introduce urban teens to rural employment.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will marry at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle on 19 May.


    1. It is not advised to send gifts to the Royal Households as in this day and age for security reasons they will likely be thrown away.
