The Duke of Edinburgh will celebrate his 99th birthday on 10th June and in normal circumstances there would be plenty of celebrations to mark the milestone occasion, the Coronavirus pandemic and UK lockdown has put a stop to that. However, Her Majesty The Queen will mark the occasion with a simple lunch at Windsor Castle, where she and Prince Philip have been isolating since March 19th.

It is understood that even before the COVID-19 pandemic took hold, there were no plans for large scale celebrations for The Duke of Edinburgh’s 99th birthday. It is said that Prince Philip is “characteristically taciturn” about the occasion and would like, as is his habit, to not make a fuss.

The Queen will, however, mark the occasion with a lunch at Windsor Castle and it is expected that there will be plenty of Zoom calls with family members including The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall in Scotland, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in Norfolk and The Duke and Duchess of Sussex in Los Angeles.

Birthday wishes will be released across The Royal Family’s various social media accounts and it is reported that Buckingham Palace will mark the occasion in some way “depending on how His Royal Highness feels.”

A childhood friend of Prince Philip, Myra Butter, said of Prince Philip, “He has such an incredibly active mind. And he’s a great reader, so interested in things. He’s got enormous knowledge and I am absolutely certain there must be a link between that and his long and healthy life. He’s such an enigma really. He has that thirst for knowledge. He still paints, he sees his horses and keeps abreast of everything in the news. He still enjoys the greatest role of all, supporting The Queen. As for a party to celebrate turning 99? Goodness me, no! He never wants a fuss, ever!”

The Duke of Edinburgh will turn 99 on Wednesday 10th June and Royal Circular will be here with all the coverage.
