The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall have led tributes to The Duke of Edinburgh as he celebrates his 99th birthday at Windsor Castle alongside Her Majesty The Queen. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also posted a ‘Happy Birthday’ message across the Kensington Palace social media accounts.

The post from Clarence House and Charles and Camilla saw two photos shared. One of these photos saw Prince Charles alongside Prince Philip riding on a motorboat together in the Isle of Wight in 1957. The second photo shows a more recent shot of father and son.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge went for two photos that pictured Prince William sharing a joke with his grandfather at the 2015 Rugby World Cup, and The Duchess of Cambridge standing alongside The Duke of Edinburgh at the Patron’s Lunch in 2016. The Duke of Edinburgh has spent his 99th birthday quietly and privately at Windsor Castle with Her Majesty The Queen. The couple have been at Windsor since 19th March, one week before the UK went in to lockdown.

Other members of The Royal Family wished Prince Philip ‘many happy returns’ across social media including Princess Eugenie who shared a touching birthday message to her ‘Grandpa’ alongside photos from her wedding.

The Royal Family’s Instagram account shared a series of photos of His Royal Highness alongside The Queen, including a photo that dated back to Prince Philip’s days as a Naval Officer and a snap of the couple’s tour of Canada from 1951.

The Queen and Prince Philip have been residing at Windsor with a reduced Household of around 20 staff, known as HMS Bubble. Buckingham Palace released a brand new photograph of the couple  on Tuesday evening ahead of Philip’s birthday. The Queen and Prince Philip were pictured in the Quadrangle at Windsor Castle and the photo was taken on 1st June.
