The Hubb Community Kitchen has long been supported by The Duke and Duchess of Sussex with Meghan making a number of visits to the kitchen before she and Harry gave up public duties. Meghan also made a Zoom call to the volunteers in April.

In the audio message The Duchess of Sussex says, “I think back to when I met all of you and how you had all come together in the wake of what you experienced in your community. And now what you have done is such an inspiration, you continue to give back, you continue to put love in action. And that’s really what Hubb is all about, we know it means love, but you are the example of love in action, and that is your purpose.”

The Duchess of Sussex was closely involved with the Hubb’s 2018 release of charity cookbook ‘Together’ which also marked her first solo venture as a member of The Royal Family. The volunteers at Hubb cook between 250 and 300 meals a day, three days a week and distribute them to elderly and vulnerable people across London.

On 14th June 2017, a fire broke out at the Grenfell Tower block of flats in North Kensington, London. The fire caused 72 deaths with more than 70 people injured; 223 people escaped the devastating fire. It was the worst UK residential fire since the Second World War and as of June 2020, the fire is being investigated by Police, a public inquiry and coroner’s inquests.

The Duchess of Sussex concluded, “I’m so proud of you, so is Harry, and we are sending so much love to you from across the pond and thinking of you today, as I’m sure it’s a difficult day, but also one where you can look at how much you’ve accomplished in the past three years, and how you continue to give back and be an example for all those around you.”
