The Queen sends condolences to people of Tanzania

Her Majesty The Queen has sent her condolences to the people of Tanzania following the recent death of the country’s President, John Magufuli. The short message from The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh was posted on The Royal Family’s official Twitter account.

The message read, “Prince Philip and I were saddened to learn of the death of President John Magufuli. I wish to convey my condolences to his loved ones and my deepest sympathy to the people of Tanzania.

John Magufuli was a Tanzanian politician who served as the fifth president of Tanzania from November 2015 until his death on 17th March 2021.

His death was announced on Wednesday by Vice President, Samia Suluhu Hassan, who said that the president had died of heart failure. The president died at a hospital in Dar es Salaam, the Indian Ocean port that is Tanzania’s largest city.

Hassan has now been sworn in as Magufuli’s successor as president.

The Queen last visited Tanzania in 1979.
