The Queen told Duchess of Sussex she could continue acting career after stepping back

Her Majesty The Queen reportedly told The Duchess of Sussex that she had every right to continue her acting career once she and The Duke of Sussex had stepped back from royal duties. The claim was made by biographer, Andrew Morton, on the Royally Obsessed podcast when he said that Harry and Meghan were given the “opportunity to go wherever they pleased.”

Speaking on the podcast, Morton commented, “They were given a degree of latitude. They were told ‘here are your first class tickets, pick which country you want to go to, we’re going to make you ambassadors for the Commonwealth’.”

Andrew Morton wrote the intimate portrait of Diana, Princess of Wales in 1992 entitled ‘Diana: Her True Story’. As well as discussing Diana’s attitude towards motherhood and public service, the book also reveals details of the marital problems between Diana and Prince Charles.

On Harry and Meghan, Morton continued, “In fairness to The Royal Family, in fairness to The Queen, she did give them that opportunity to go wherever they pleased. And also, they did say to Meghan if you don’t want to embrace royal duties full time please be our guest and continue your acting career. Those opportunities were open to her.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back from their roles as full-time working royals in early 2020.

On Harry and Meghan’s thoughts around stepping back from royal duties, Morton concluded, “I think neither of them gave it the thought they should have done.”
