The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge married on 29th April 2011 at Westminster. A decade has past since that historic occasion and in those ten years a number of memorable moments have occurred.
To celebrate William and Catherine’s tin anniversary, Royal Circular wanted to look back at ten memorable moments that have happened for the couple since that amazing day. Of course, number one has to be that momentous occasion on an overcast April day at Westminster Abbey!
29th April 2011 – Prince William and Catherine Middleton marry at Westminster Abbey. Among the guests were The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, Queen Sofia of Spain and King Michael I of Romania.
2012 was the year of the London Olympics, an event that William and Catherine were very much involved in. This memorable photo was taken on Day 6 of the Games at the Velodrome in London and shows the couple celebrating Team GB’s gold win in the Men’s Team Sprint Track Cycling.
22nd July 2013 – The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge welcome their first child, Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge.
In April 2014, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge embarked on a tour of Australia and New Zealand and took Prince George with them. The couple arrived in New Zealand on 7th April before heading to Australia on 16th April.
2nd May 2015 – The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge welcome their second child, Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge.
In April 2016, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge made an historic visit to India. One of the most famous photos of the couple’s ten year marriage came out of that tour and is shown below.
Another year, another royal tour. This time The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge stayed in Europe and headed to Poland and Germany in 2017.
23rd April 2018 – A family of four becomes a family of five as Prince Louis Arthur Charles of Cambridge is born on St George’s Day.
18th October 2019 – During a tour of Pakistan, William and Catherine visit an Army Canine Centre in Islamabad.
In 2020, the entire world was in a pandemic as the Coronavirus disease took hold. In the photo below, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge join The Queen and other members of The Royal Family for a socially distanced thank you to keyworkers at Christmas.
Our final photo is from a sad and sombre occasion. The Duke of Edinburgh died on 9th April 2021 and though he lived an amazingly long life, his death came as a shock to the nation and the world. Below shows William and Catherine paying their respects at his funeral on April 17th.
