Her Majesty The Queen has led the messages of support for the England football team ahead of tonight’s final against Italy in the European Championships. The final is being held at Wembley Stadium and it is estimated that 35 million people will watch the nail-biting climax, which is being shown on both ITV and BBC.
In a personal message to Gareth Southgate and the England team, The Queen recalled presenting the World Cup trophy to Bobby Moore in 1966 as she praised the current squad’s “spirit, commitment and pride with which you have conducted yourselves.”
The Queen went on to say, “I want to send my congratulations and that of my family to you all of you on reaching the final of the European Championships, and send my good wishes for tomorrow with the hope that history will record not only your success but also the spirit, commitment and pride with which you have conducted yourselves.”
The Duke of Cambridge has also sent a video message of support to the England team. Prince William urged the team to “bring it home” and added that the entire team had already “displayed the very best of England.”
