Prince George gave royal fans and football fans one of the best photos of the year last night as he celebrated England’s first goal against Italy in the Euro 2020 final at Wembley. However, in the nail-biting penalty shootout – which saw England defeated – George looked a lot more tense and sombre. Some cruel people saw this as an opportunity to take to social media and mock the seven-year-old heir to the throne.
Photos were shared across social media of the Wembley crowd looking solemn and often heartbroken at England’s defeat and, of course, photos were shared of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince George before, during and after the penalty shootout.
A number of Scotland fans took to social media to mock Prince George’s heartache at England losing out at the last leg. One user commented, “Hahahahahahaha, hope the little twerp cries into his tie” while another user commented, “And this royal turnout is supposed to make Scotland stay in the union? Absolutely not.”
Scotland bowed out of the European Championships in the group stage and did not make it to the knockout stages. The team faced England however both sides failed to score.
England went on to make it to the final of the European Championships and faced Italy at Wembley. Both sides drew meaning the game went to extra time and when both sides failed to score in extra time, the outcome was decided on penalties.
Following England’s defeat, The Duke of Cambridge condemned the racist abuse received by some players last night after the match. In a statement, Prince William described the abuse as “sickening.”
