Platinum Jubilee: All The Local Updates

We are back with another round-up of all the local information released recently ahead of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations beginning in February and culminating with a four-day bank holiday weekend spectacular in June.

Southampton City Council announces plans to mark Platinum Jubilee

Southampton City Council have announced their plans to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee throughout 2022.

The Big Platinum Festival will be held in Mayflower Park on Sunday 5th June 2022 and will run from 10am to 9pm. The event will be family friendly and highlights will include local artists ranging from DJ’s to buskers, local poets and dancers as well as food stalls and cooking demonstrations. There will also be a tribute band, Forever Queen, who will be performing hits from legendary rock band, Queen.

As well as the festival, there will also be the chance to engage in afternoon tea with the Mayor of Southampton. Being held in the Mayor’s Parlour, anyone who is celebrating their 70th birthday in 2022 is being invited to enjoy the delights of an afternoon tea. More details on this will be released in due course.

As well as all this, residents across Southampton are being encouraged to hold street parties to celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum milestone. Cabinet member for Communities, Heritage and Culture, Councillor Spiros Vassiliou, commented, “The programme of activities in Southampton to honour our Queen’s service have a real focus on bringing local communities together to mark the occasion with street parties and local events.”

Falkirk confirms school closures for Queen’s Jubilee

It has been confirmed that Falkirk school’s will close on Thursday 2nd June and Friday 3rd June to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Early Learning Centres will also close though there will be options for parents to choose from to make up for the loss of hours.

Windsor and Eton’s Platinum Jubilee plans revealed

Windsor and Eton have revealed their local plans to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and they include picnics, pancake races and street parties. It is expected that Windsor and Eton will see a huge spike in tourist numbers throughout 2022 owing to it being the location of The Queen’s favourite residence, Windsor Castle.

In preparation for the Jubilee, Windsor and Eton Society will be sprucing up the towns with union flags and flower baskets with a purple, pink and white colour scheme.

The Platinum Pancake Race will take place on 1st March from 9:30am to 12pm within the Windsor Royal Station.

On 19th March, the Windsor and Eton Choral Society Concert will take place in celebration of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and will be help at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.

From 12th-15th May, the Royal Windsor Horse Show will take place at Windsor Castle and according to the BBC, it will be a 90 minute spectacular with more than 500 horses and 1000 performers taking the audience on a journey from the reign of Queen Elizabeth I right through to the present day.

Throughout the June extended bank-holiday weekend, there will be an array of events throughout the town. Attractions will include the lighting of the Jubilee beacon on the Long Walk, a concert at St George’s Chapel, a picnic on the green in Holyport and the longest picnic lunch ever on the Long Walk. To top this off, residents across Windsor and Eton are being encouraged to hold their own street parties.

Air Show planned as special tribute for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

The world famous pilots from RAF Cosford will be taking to the skies in June for a special air show to commemorate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Their tribute is set to tell the “a seventy year story of aviation and royalty.”

Tickets for the tribute went on sale on Tuesday 18th January.
