Her Majesty The Queen has moved her closest friend and aide, Angela Kelly, into Windsor Castle on a permanent basis. Kelly, who has been Her Majesty’s dresser and aide for over 28 years is reported to be staying in a suite right next to The Queen’s private quarters.
Angela Kelly began working as The Queen’s dresser in 1994 and was promoted to Personal Assistant and Senior Dresser in 2002. Her official title is Personal Assistant, Adviser and Curator to Her Majesty The Queen (Jewellery, Insignias and Wardrobe.) She was appointed a member of the Royal Victorian Order in 2006 and promoted to Lieutenant of the same order in 2012. She was also awarded the Queen Elizabeth II version of the Royal Household Long and Faithful Service Medal in 2014 for 20 years of service to the Royal Family.
During the Coronavirus pandemic, Angela Kelly was temporarily moved into Windsor Castle alongside other staff in what was known as HMS Bubble. The team consisted of a slimmed down staff who were there to cater to Her Majesty The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh during subsequent lockdowns.
It is reported that The Queen has moved Kelly in due to her ongoing episodic mobility issues. A source told The Sun “She lives there now. She has moved in.”
Notable creations of Angela Kelly have included the replica of the royal christening gown after the original, which had been commissioned by Queen Victoria, was retired by Her Majesty The Queen in 2004 for conservation purposes. She also created the outfit worn by The Queen for the wedding of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in 2011 as well as altering a dress of Her Majesty’s worn by Princess Eugenie at her wedding to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.
