The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend to be hit by London tube strikes

The upcoming four-day bank holiday weekend to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee is set to be hit by London Underground strikes with staff part of the RMT union set to walk out on Friday 3rd June.

It is thought that staff from two key stations for those travelling to London will take part in the walk out due to a “toxic working environment” and allegations of bullying.

Euston and Green Park are the two stations that are currently being affected by the strike. The Jubilee, Piccadilly and Victoria lines will be heavily disrupted and according to union bosses there will be “significant disruption to people wishing to celebrate The Queen’s Jubilee.”

London Euston will be one of the underground stations affected by the strike.

Euston underground station is the main station for passengers travelling into London Euston Railway Station. The railway station connects passengers to London from various locations across the country including as far afield as Glasgow and Edinburgh as well as Manchester, Liverpool and Blackpool. The Caledonian Sleeper from Aberdeen also alights at London Euston. The closest underground station to Euston will now be St Pancras or Euston Square. Warren Street is also a short distance away.

Green Park is the closest underground station to Buckingham Palace and would have been the station of choice for many to get to the Jubilee celebrations quickly. The closest station to Green Park will now be St James’s Park, Hyde Park Corner or Victoria.

Bob Blackman, Tory MP for Harrow, told the Mail Online, “It’s outrageous that the unions are going on strike at key locations during the Jubilee weekend. We have no comment, yet again, from the Mayor on the unions aiming to paralyse London when we should be celebrating and encouraging Londoners to use public transport on such a joyous occasion.”

It is reported that National Rail services at Euston will not be affected by this strike.

Royal Circular will keep you updated with any developments as they happen.
