During the visit, The Queen was told that the cobbles on the street were the originals taken from the original Granada Studios set. Her Majesty was warned not to walk on the cobbles with high heels to which she replied, “No I know. I’ve been told. Probably better not.”

The visit to Coronation Street came as part of a wider visit to Manchester for Her Majesty The Queen. In a later visit to Manchester Cathedral, The Queen was treated to a medley of hits by Queen from the Manchester Lesbian and Gay Chorus. Her Majesty also met a variety of community groups. The visit to the Cathedral marked the 600th anniversary of the Collegiate Church of Manchester, which became a Cathedral in 1847.
